Stories and experiences

Suicidal ideation, strictly speaking, entails wanting or thinking about taking your own life. We can distinguish two kinds of suicidal ideation:

·         Passive suicidal ideation

It is characterized by wishing that you could die, or that you were dead. Passive suicidal ideation however, doesn’t actually involve plans of dying by committing suicide.

What is Mental Health? One of the best definitions of mental health was given by one U.S. Surgeon General. He correctly observed that mental health is a state where mental functions are performing successfully, resulting in fulfilling relationships with people around us, productive activities, ability to cope with adversity, and adapt to changes.

There is a reason for a saying “woke up on the wrong side of the bad” and most people have realized in one way or another how seep or lack thereof can significantly affect their mental state. It is established that sleep is closely related to our emotional and mental health and is clearly linked to some of most common mental disorders, such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, etc.

Amidst the growing number of self-help methods, one certainly deserves our attention with the positive results it achieved, fantastic reception, and ever-increasing popularity since its breakthrough in 1984 with the book “You Can Heal Your Life”, by Louise Hay. This author notably changed the perception people had of diseases and healing process by connecting the appearance of every illness with the corresponding trigger factors, either emotional or attitudinal ones. In that way, she invited people to contemplate the appearance of the disease as a form of a wake-up call that urges for fixing the unresolved issues that they ignore in their lives.

In these challenging times of uncertainty and fear, when threats to our own survival and that of those closest to us became the issue we’re dealing with on a daily basis, there is an underlying impression that mental health care isn’t a pressing matter and that ‘it can wait’, while the all available efforts should be focused on preserving life. While it is true that preserving lives is of outmost importance, we should still be aware that mental health is one of the most important factors that will help us survive and go through this latest pandemic.
